After 18 years with the company, Wudel steps into a broader leadership role overseeing operations at the publicly traded hotel REIT.
Summit Hotel Properties, Inc. (NYSE: INN) has promoted Adam Wudel to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, effective November 1, 2026. The appointment marks a new chapter in Wudel's 18-year career with the Austin-based hotel real estate investment trust (REIT), where he has held progressively senior positions across finance, investment strategy, and corporate development.
Wudel most recently served as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development, overseeing asset management, revenue strategy, data analytics, and transaction activity. His promotion brings together years of experience in both the financial and operational sides of hotel ownership.
The leadership change comes alongside the appointment of Mike Nieves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, also effective November 1, as Summit updates its senior management team.
Eighteen Years of Growth at Summit
Unlike executives who arrive from another company, Wudel has built much of his professional career within Summit Hotel Properties. Over nearly two decades, he has taken on responsibilities spanning financial management, capital markets, hotel asset performance, and corporate strategy.
Before leading Corporate Development, he served as Senior Vice President of Finance, Capital Markets and Treasurer. In that position, he directed the company's capital markets activities, investor relations, financial planning and analysis, and treasury functions.
His subsequent move into Corporate Development expanded his responsibilities to the performance and management of Summit's hotel investments. This included asset management, revenue strategy, analytics, and transactions, bringing him closer to the decisions that affect individual properties and the overall portfolio.
That progression provides a useful foundation for the Chief Operating Officer role. Wudel has experience understanding hotel assets as financial investments while also evaluating the operational factors that influence their performance.
Wudel holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from North Dakota State University.
From Corporate Development to Operations
Summit Hotel Properties focuses on acquiring and owning premium-branded, select-service hotels in the upscale and upper-midscale segments.
As a publicly traded REIT, the company's business involves more than acquiring properties. It must also monitor how those hotels perform, evaluate opportunities for improvement, and coordinate investment decisions with changing market conditions.
Wudel's previous responsibilities in asset management and revenue strategy are closely connected to those priorities. His work in data analytics and transaction activity has also given him experience evaluating both individual hotel performance and broader portfolio decisions.
The promotion to COO represents a natural extension of that background, placing an executive familiar with Summit's financial and investment operations into a broader operational leadership position.
It also creates continuity within the management team. With 18 years at Summit, Wudel brings knowledge of the company's portfolio, business model, and organizational development that an external appointment would take time to acquire.
A Leadership Transition at Summit Hotel Properties
Wudel's promotion is part of a broader executive leadership update at Summit.
The company also appointed Mike Nieves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, bringing experience from PENN Entertainment, JLL, Citigroup, and corporate law.
Together, the two appointments bring different professional backgrounds to Summit's executive team. Nieves contributes external experience in capital markets, treasury, and real estate transactions, while Wudel brings long-standing knowledge of Summit's operations and investment strategy.
For hotel REITs, the relationship between financial leadership and operational performance is particularly important. Investment decisions, property-level results, revenue strategies, and capital allocation are closely connected, even when hotel operations are carried out by third-party management companies.
Wudel's experience across these areas positions him to contribute to that coordination as Summit continues managing its hotel portfolio.
FerrConn Perspective
Adam Wudel's promotion is a good example of the value of developing leadership from within. Over 18 years, he has moved through different sides of Summit's business, gaining an understanding of how financial decisions, hotel performance, and investment strategy connect.
What makes his move to COO particularly interesting is that he isn't learning the company's business model from the outside. He has helped manage several of the functions that shape it. That familiarity could give him a practical advantage as he takes on broader responsibilities and works alongside Summit's newly appointed CFO.
